Do you really need a website in the age of social media?

With the advent of social media, many people believe that websites are dead.  If you think so, too, I challenge you to find even the most basic information about a company on their Facebook page!  What are their hours?  Do they accept returns?  How do you contact support?  Yeah, that information is usually well hidden, if it’s there at all.

So, yes, you still need a website, and here’s why:

First of all, your website is the center of your web presence. It lets you show your target audience or niche the unique products and services you offer.

At the very least, it functions as a stable, interactive online business card that visitors can use to find out more about you, hopefully with the intention of buying what you are offering.

Having a professional website you use as the hub of your business marketing can help you be the top-of-mind choice when customers need what you’re offering.  Even better, if you have a mailing list, make sure you offer an enticing freebie to get them to sign up, so you can stay in front of them on a monthly basis, at least.

It’s your website, so you control how you present yourself and what’s featured.  Keeping your home page fresh with new offerings and articles will not only encourage Google to give you a boost in its listings, but your customers will notice and be more inclined to come back often to see what’s new.

Second, most potential customers EXPECT you to have a website, and if you are serious about your business, you need to have an online presence that shows you are a professional that can be trusted with their hard-earned cash.

Your website is where you get to shine.  Show off your personality and stand out from the crowd.  Give your visitors something to rave about, whether it’s amazing products and services, or helpful information that makes their lives easier.

Third, don’t forget that your competitors have websites, and they are jockeying for the same customers.  Why give your customers yet another reason to buy from someone else?  Keep yourself out there, so you can be seen.

Also remember that your website is always open!  You can do business 24/7 online, and a website helps customers reach you at any time.

Fourth, a well-designed website helps you get and retain more customers over time.  Just make sure your website is simple and easy to navigate, so they can find what they are looking for right away without wasting their precious time.

Your website should be able to offer more support to them such as user manuals, tutorials, how-to videos, articles, and other information that helps them make the most of what you offer.  Product reviews, tips and tricks, and special offers are just a few more things you can do to keep customers coming back for more.

Done well, your website can help you stay connected with your customers and build your business, so make sure you have a website that works for you.
